Machetes, stun guns, flick knives and cut-throat razors seized in west London

knife1A large haul of dangerous weapons have been seized by officers from Kensington & Chelsea Proactive Unit as the Met tackles knife crime across the capital.

The cache of weapons including 12 disguised stun guns, batons, martial arts weapons and a significant amount of knives were discovered and seized at two addresses in Brent andKensington.

Officers found 62 knives, including machetes, flick knives and dangerous combat knives, in the boot of one car in Brent.

Stun guns disguised as key fobs, mobile phones and torches were also recovered along with cut-throat razors destined for use by criminal gangs.

A 39-year-old man has been arrested by police on suspicion of possession of firearms and offensive weapons and remains in custody at a west London police station.

The large seizure follows comments made this week by Detective Chief Superintendent Dean Haydon, the Head of Trident Gang Crime Command, which promised enhanced coordinated activity to tackle knife crime on London’s streets.

He said: “Tackling knife crime is a key priority for the Met. Every week, officers from across London carry out enforcement activity, and educational programmes aimed at prevention are regularly delivered to young people.

“The people of London can expect to see lots of coordinated and intelligence-led police activity over the coming week. We will be carrying out a variety of operations including weapon sweeps and stop and search; as well as targeting known offenders.”
