Brent Council given the largest Disabled Facilities Grant in London

Brent Council have been given a £1.6million grant to help disabled residents live independently in their own home – the highest sum in London.

3737623651In an announcement made by Housing Minister Mark Prisk today, the borough will receive Disabled Facilities Grant totalling £1,684,717 which is also the eighth highest payout in the country.

The grant will provide local authorities with financial help to install a wide range of housing adaptations or modifications such as wider doorways, stair lifts and level access showers.

An occupational therapist will look at individual circumstances and recommend the type of adaptations needed.

All 33 councils in London will receive a share of the £23m allocated to the city.

Manchester Council has received the largest amount of £2.6m.

Making the announcement, Mr Prisk said: “For many people, the security of being able to stay in your own home in difficult times can have a real impact on their health and wellbeing.

“The £180 million I’ve allocated today will help to support people across the country through disability and provide some of our most vulnerable with the help they need to live independently for as long as possible.”
